How do you adjust the vintage 1950s/60s headsets that have the recessed pinholes?

No way did I want to go at it w/ channel lock pliers. So, I bought the currently-produced VAR #16 lockring tool, and had my machinist friend modify it at the ends. It works great.

what else?
headset pliers from back in the day:

VAR tool #13.

The pins mount in two positions, to the sides or to the top. Is it still made?

The mythical Campagnolo #772 tool, from Catalogs 14 and 15:

The text in the catalog reads 'chiave speciale con leve mobili per sterzi speciali'. I say mythical because there are very few of these known to exist, and none seem to be for sale.
